Sydney's Top 10 Pizzas - Part 4

We are counting down the best Pizzas in Sydney...

Number 4 - Love Supreme

Best for The atmosphere of a neighbourhood restaurant where the owners remember your face and maybe even send over a bowl of olives with their compliments.

What to order The Papa – classic Margherita with proscuitto laid on after it comes out of the oven. Ya Basta! (ham, pumpkin, chilli and pecorino) is a favourite too. Or go for the Surprise. The antipasto plate and the vanilla bean panna cotta will bookend things superbly.

Atmosphere Perfect. These are the guys – Bosko and Vlad Vujovic – who made Arthur’s Pizza (just 200 yards up the road) the Sydney icon it was. They’ve brought the same jazzy, zany character and social club feel to Love Supreme. It’s always busy (don’t go if you’re in a mad rush) and extremely fun. The long marble table at the back is great for big parties.

Extras For a slightly calmer, more refined vibe, try their brother restaurant Young Alfred on the ground floor of Customs House at Circular Quay. Love Supreme are also now open for brunch at weekends when the Sourdough Sisters serve up some of the best breads and pastries in town.

Get a table It can be tricky and there’s nowhere very close to go and wait. But arrive before 7pm and Bosko and Co. will do their best to sort you out.
180 Oxford St, Paddington 2021. (02 9331 1779). Dinner 7 nights; brunch at weekends. BYO, around $25pp.

Number 3 - Rosso Pomodoro

Best for Dining by the bay. Watch the ships from one of the outside seats or sit inside and simply watch the hot Italian waitstaff – impossibly attractive blue-eyed, sooty-lashed Italian boys and girls grace the floor.

What to order The Porcini Mushroom and Prosciutto is a ripper – mozzarella stretches in ribbons off a thin base decorated simply with fragrant mushrooms and drapes of cured ham. They may use an electric oven instead of the traditional wood-fire but the result is still magnifico.

Atmosphere Incredibly loud, very boisterous (the room is decked out in hard surfaces down to the polished concrete floors so sound ricochets off everything) but that’s all part of the fun and the experience. But they do have a few seats outside too.

Extras There’s a Nutella calzone (like a pizza only folded in half) covered in toasted almond flakes. It’s the size of Burt Newton’s head so it’ll feed a table of four. They also do BYO.

Get a table Bookings are essential. Risk a walk in and risk a long walk to the next restaurant.
Shop 90–91, 24 Buchanan St, Balmain (near White Bay) 2041. (02 9555 5924). Tue–Sun 6pm–10pm. BYO, around $25pp.
