What the hell is... Baklava?

What the hell is... Baklava?

A type of middle-eastern pastry, it consists of layers of filo filled with a mix of nuts (pine nuts, walnuts, hazelnuts or pistachios) which are then baked with rose or orange water then covered in sugar syrup or honey.

A good baklava is firm and moist without being soggy or oily and sweet without being a toothache. The best places to buy them are straight from the source in places like Bankstown or Lakemba.
