Sydney's best Dancefloors

From tripping the light fantastic on illuminated ground to adding a spring to your dancing step, Time Out's Bianca O'Neil hot-footed it all over town to find Sydney finest, most footloose dancefloors

Sydney's best Dancefloors

The Kings Cross Hotel

The newly refurbished Kings Cross Hotel has a transparent dancefloor where you can look down on - or up at - other dancers. Skirt-wearing gals (and guys) can relax, though: we're assured strategically placed lights prevent up-skirt perving and will keep the raincoat types away.
The Kings Cross Hotel, 244-248 William Street, Kings Cross, 2011 (02 9331 9900)

The Intersection Tavern

If nights out in St George are where you're at, we totally recommend The Intersection's dancefloor - sprung entirely from car suspension springs. We heard that someone's fully sick cousin got ‘em half price with the darkest legal tint windows allowed by law thrown in for free...
The Intersection Tavern, Rocky Point Rd, Ramsgate, 2217 (02 9529 3172)

The Enmore Theatre

Bet you never noticed why every time you went to a gig at the Enmore you had an extra spring in your step? Yep, they have old school sprung dancefloors - for the dance marathons they had in the 30s... or maybe because they only have good bands on. Whatever - it's a rockin' way to feel the earth move while you're vertical.
The Enmore Theatre, 130 Enmore Rd, Newtown, 2042 (02 9550 3666)

Randy Wix

Avoca Street's legendary restaurant/bar/club is open for business a scant two nights a week (Fri and Sat, 10pm-2am - not a second earlier and not a minute later) and it has the distinction of being both hard to find and difficult to describe: but how many venues can boast a dancefloor covered in Saturn-print carpet?
Randy Wix, 123 Avoca St, Randwick, 2031 (02 9398 4994).

The Mandarin Club

If ever you wanted your own Saturday Night Fever dance off, this was the perfect spot to hold it, thanks to its hardcore 70s light up dancefloor action. Many was the night that ended with everyone regretting that the fun was over for another week. However, we're unsure whether the floor will survive the move to its new digs on Dixon Street - but perhaps the new M Bar will be too fancy for white suited disco action... watch this space.
The Mandarin Club re-opens this month at 1 Dixon St, Sydney, 2000 (02 9211 3866)
