This is a stunning collection of innovative paper-cuts and screen prints that illustrate the story of one man's quest for happiness. Each picture is cut from paper, then scalped, sprayed and photographed with a meticulous hand and a creative eye. In contrast to the detailed imagery, the language is innocent and simple, helping to expose the author's raw emotions. Having obtained a degree in fine art at Nottingham Trent Polytechnic and completed an MA in printmaking at the Royal College in London, Rob Ryan is clearly aware that bold pictures and unadorned words can have a powerful effect. His original style is universally renowned and he has recently collaborated with the designer Paul Smith. This is his first book but he combines art and poetry with imaginative precision, to comment on our anxious desire to love and be loved.
