The name of the boat was Black Magic and it belonged to friends of Duncan's. On that dark warm night, the ship was controlled and navigated by computer, leaving Duncan free to ponder the horizon for passing ships. "I was bored, but interested by the lights in the black of night," says Duncan.

"I discovered how much computer technology has changed my environment." By the time he had returned home to Sydney, he had memory cards full of images - all manipulated using only the digital camera. No Photoshop was used to create the images. "I started taking my camera on board my own boat and kept playing on Sydney Harbour." The intriguing results are seen in Duncan's exhibition - Ships in the Night - showing at Blender Gallery until 24 June.
